Erik is a sx6w7 like his momma. His braces come of in two weeks and he can't wait. (he has a widows peak but it's hidden in this photo.) Erik was accepted into the most advanced and prestigious magnet program school in Austin today for next year (free). It means he will get into LBJ Science Academy for High School (free), which means full scholarship to Rice if he can keep doing what he is doing. It was a happy day today for Erik.

Isaak is a 9w8 with a hell of a lot of 4w3 in the mix. He is an interesting person, with a dramatic vocabulary.. well above that of an average child his age. He is great in sports of all kinds and has a rather impressive singing voice, of all things. He loves to sing hard rock.. and it sounds surprisingly good. He has a great scream/sing style and he tears up an electric guitar. He loves intense dark moods. He has a talent for decorating his room.

My oldest son is beginning to grow into the face he will have as a man. It looks like he is going to have the classic face shape of my Italian lineage. He is starting to look a lot like Leonardo Dicaprio, but better looking even!

I'll post pictures of both my boys soon. They are growing up! My youngest still has the roundness in his face of a child. I'm not yet sure what face shape he will end up with.

I can't breath. My nose is fully stuffed but I don't have a cold. No snot. It's awful because I can't even blow my nose. My throat is dry, hot and hurts. I have a scratchy cough. It's hard to breath! My throat feels like it is tightening and there is absolutely no way I can get air through my nose. I'm light headed because I can't get enough oxygen. I think I might actually have to go to the emergency room. This is crazy. Both the boys are at a friends house having a sleep over. Eugene is out drunk and high on pills at a reggae bar. and I don't know if I should try and drive myself to the emergency room. even as I write... my throat is tightening more. Fuck it, i'm calling 911. this could be anaphylactic shock.

My side of a conversation with a Christian.

The bible seems clear to me as earlier mans philosophical attempt to explain our existence. even divine inspiration is limited by the vessel that channels it. Dust to Dust. We are all carbon-based life-forms. When we die our bodies decompose and all that is left over time is our dust. We once again become part of the earth from which we were born. It's the carbon cycle in biology.

"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?"

We all share the same fate as the other mammals from whom we evolved; we all return to dust. It's the carbon cycle in action.

It's clear to me that earth is our mother. The ocean is our mothers womb which acted as the incubator in which all life sprung. With out the light and heat of the sun, all life would die. It is only when the sun was formed that life could be created on earth. "Let there be light!" life arose in a soup rich in carbon compounds. Compounds that came from interstellar dust. Our bodies are from the earth.
Our spirit was not born from this earth. And our spirit will not go back into the earth like our bodies

And what is our spirit? My thoughts, our spirit was born with our higher consciousness. "The tree of knowledge". And with self awareness and our higher consciousness came deeper suffering. We were no longer just animals. However, even our higher consciousness evolves "becomes more enlightened". Jesus was a far more evolved vessel than the first men who wrote the bible. Jesus corrected many of their mistakes in understanding the divine. An eye for an eye Lk. 6.27-36, for example. The pathway to our salvation and the way to release our suffering is through forgiveness and love. A person must be able to understand what real love is in order to understand the message. God is love and love leads to the doorway into heaven. Many people think that love is the opposite of what it truly is. Jealousy, insecurity and spite are not love. Those are early man's misunderstanding of God and Love. Mother earths natural ways of population control have little to do with our spirits Creator. But early man tried to attribute "all power" behind their incomprehension of it, to God. Then the devil too. Good and evil are within man. It's an internal fight that can bleed into the earth. so much evil is done in the name of good. So many people think hate is love. So many people. the bible is not perfect. Far from it. Because the men that wrote it were not perfect in divine understanding. Do not fear questioning the deeper meaning and mistakes in the bible. The mistakes were man made. God is not insecure and spiteful. God welcomes your steps towards higher consciousness, because that is where true understanding, and our very salvation as a species, is found.

My son Isaac has a deep love for music. He feels "Call of Cthulhu" (Metallica) through out his soul. To watch him dance or play it on his guitar (my husband taught him how) Anyway, to watch Isaac's passion is so beautiful to me. I should film it. Or at least take pictures. I never take pictures unless asked. I'm not sure why Eugene and I are so bad about that. We both are. I guess we are so involved in the moment that taking pictures seems pointless.

The silly vampire and werewolf movie Underworld 3 has an outstanding sex scene in it. It was highly tasteful but you could really feel the passion. I found the movements beautiful visually (although the actors were rather normal looking). Such an unexpected movie to find such a pleasing scene in. I'm almost always put off by movie sex scenes. They tend to be either too pornish or too priggish... or just clearly fake. In truth, I can't think of another movie, off the top of my head, that had a sex scene I would deem worth posting about. Maybe I just need sex, but I think it's more than that. There was a rare captured passion in the scene that aroused me. That's not common.

    Health care rant
How about only people who make less than $75,000 can buy into the public option. that will keep a great number of corporations from switch over. It will also take care of those that need the most help. The rich will not feel so threatened if there is a clear class line. The rich like class lines. Upper middle class like class lines. The nature of capitalism causes people to self define by class lines. Let the rich keep their cherry on top. What ever. The public option will be for those that can't afford private insurance. Kind of like public school vs private school. Public school might have problems but I'm so thankful that we have it. I think in the end, public health care will be in the same category. Public school is a world better than no school. Public health care option will be a world better than no affordable health care option. Let those who have more get the very best. They do anyway. Let those who get nothing have something they can afford. At this point it's the lower middle class that have no real options. The very poor get government help. The higher middle class have corporate jobs that insure them. Let those that make between $25,000 to $75,000 have the option to buy low cost health care every bit as good as medicare. It will stop the emergency rooms from being flooded with non-emergency health problems, like mild flu discomfort, so people with serious emergency issues can be seen faster.

Your result for The Find Your Philosophical Era! Test...

    The Modern

    25% Ancient, 13% Medieval, 44% Modern and 19% Post-Modern!

    Congratulations! You are: a Modern!

(Keep in mind, by Modern, I mean the era which began around the 17th century and ended in the 20th century.)

Throughout the Modern era, philosophers and scientists were forced constantly to do battle with the forces of censorship, philosophical conservatism, and pure inertia. This was the age in which “innovation” was a bad word, and the Moderns were all about innovation. Despite all the opposition they faced, Modern philosophy is the most optimistic of any era. The Moderns seem really to have believed that, for instance, giving men freedom from kings and priests and tyrants will make men happier and better. Their goal was a political community based on reason. But while some Moderns concentrated on becoming more and more scientific, rational and civilized, others, such as Wordsworth and Rousseau, reacted against this trend by turning back to what they saw as the pure, uncorrupted truths of nature. However, the Romantic and the Scientific trends in Modernism are two sides of the same coin. The two are united in their disdain for the status quo and for social norms, and their search for more real, trustworthy truths upon which to build the new society they all dreamed of.

Some modern philosophers: Newton, Voltaire, Bacon, Hume, Rousseau, Hobbes, La Rochefoucauld, La Bruyère, Darwin, J.S. Mill

Some modern artists: Da Vinci, Molière, Shakespeare, Bernard Shaw, Mozart, Cervantes, Swift

Typical modern art forms: opera, comic plays, portraiture, the concerto, the confessional memoir, descriptions of nature

    Intelligence

    Intelligence

Intelligence (also called intellect) is an umbrella term used to describe a property of the mind that encompasses many related abilities, such as the capacities to reason, plan, and solve problems. And you? Your brain shines. All 7 virtues are a part of you, but your intelligence runs deepest.

It is likely you're a smarty-pants. And it's likely (but not necessary) that your discipline score is high also. It takes a certain resolve to maintain all those neural thingies. (no, not really. lol)

Intelligent famous people: Einstein, Shakespeare, Da Vinci.

Your raw relative scores follow. 0% is low, and 100% is perfect, nearly impossible. Note that I pitted the virtues against each other, so in some way these are relative scores. It's impossible to score high on all of them, and a low score on one is just relatively low compared to the other virtues.

    YOUR VIRTUES

    50% Compassion

    67% Intelligence

    38% Humility

    61% Honesty

    0% Discipline

    39% Courage

    58% Passion

    Penguin
    Genera and species: Aptenodytes patagonica
Collective Term: A colony of penguins

    Description
Now you see it, now you don't. Aggressive yet gentle, outgoing but shy, stable yet flighty -- everyone sees the penguin in a different way. It's that black and white thing -- the penguin only reveals the side that it wants to you to see. So, whether you like this darling-devil or not, you have to concede that it's a fascinating and enigmatic individual.

For penguins are birds condemned to live out their days on the ground. Unable to fly, their excess energy has no outlet save their creative talents and emotional outbursts. Penguins are poetic, artistic, and intellectually gifted, and as writers, penguins have no equal. But, if unable to channel their impulses in a positive way, the resulting turmoil proves damaging to their relationships and careers.

A strong sense of drama draws them to the theater and cinema, although unlike typical bird personalities, they avoid the spotlight unless they're able to hide behind the characters they play. Once on stage however, they prove to be excellent performers with their multifaceted personalities conveying the full gamut of emotions.

However, a lack of confidence affects their work and penguins tend to give up too easily. So work never dominates their lives and they always put their families first. Those intimate with their penguin personality are impressed by their unswerving loyalty. They are sentimental at heart and always remember anniversaries and the birthdays of nieces and nephews. With a strong compassion for others, they place their family's needs ahead of their own but often end up being taken advantage of.

In matters of the heart, penguins connect poorly with other bird personalities who look down on them because of their terrestrial connections. Mammalian personalities also treat them with suspicion too, finding them to be flighty and unpredictable.

Since penguins have the coldest feet in the animal kingdom, it's no surprise that within its conflicted bosom there beats the warmest heart of all. Unfortunately, most of us will never experience this gentle compassion, for penguins ration their love only to family and close friends.
